Hello, friends! It's about to be December again, and you know what that means: the fact I am posting this actually before December 1 means [staff profile] karzilla reminded me about the existence of linear time again. Wait, no -- well, yes, but also -- okay, look, let me back up and start again: it's almost December, and that means it's time for our annual December holiday points bonus.

The standard explanation: For the entire month of December, all orders made in the Shop of points and paid time, either for you or as a gift for a friend, will have 10% of your completed cart total sent to you in points when you finish the transaction. For instance, if you buy an order of 12 months of paid time for $35 (350 points), you'll get 35 points when the order is complete, to use on a future purchase.

The fine print and much more behind this cut! )

Thank you, in short, for being the best possible users any social media site could possibly ever hope for. I'm probably in danger of crossing the Sappiness Line if I haven't already, but you all make everything worth it.

On behalf of Mark, Jen, Robby, and our team of awesome volunteers, and to each and every one of you, whether you've been with us on this wild ride since the beginning or just signed up last week, I'm wishing you all a very happy set of end-of-year holidays, whichever ones you celebrate, and hoping for all of you that your 2026 is full of kindness, determination, empathy, and a hell of a lot more luck than we've all had lately. Let's go.

[#281 | Mirage] Challenge Post

Challenge 281:
MIRAGE
n. an optical effect that is sometimes seen at sea, in the desert, or over a hot pavement, that may have the appearance of a pool of water or a mirror; something illusory or unattainable

Caused by the shimmer of reflected light over heated air, a mirage can be a dangerous thing in the desert, where it might trick unwary travelers into thinking they’re not so far from water. It can be beautiful – a little ripple of light in the distance, like sunlight dancing on water – but no matter how hard you try, you’ll never get close enough.

Write a story about a mirage (literal or figurative).

BONUS GOAL: “It’s just a dream.”

If your submission features this line, it will earn an extra point to be tallied in voting!

Challenge ends Monday, December 1 at 9:00PM EST.
• Post submissions as new entries using the template in the profile
• Tag this week's entries as: [#] submission, 281 – mirage

How's It Going YEMers?

Can you believe it? We are twenty days into our Year-End Marathon! That means we're roughly a third of the way through the challenge, for a par of 10 000 words or 10 days towards your YEM pledge. But whether you're on par or not, we'd love to hear how things are going for you. Your triumphs and your frustrations. Are the words flowing like water or does it feel more like time is slipping through your fingers? What can we do to help you reach your goal?

For myself, I've been struggling to get words into the project I was wanting to focus on this month. The desire is there, but bum glue has been in short supply. And then a whole new (and much shorter) project blossomed into my GYWO Scrivener project and oh look at that, words! 😅

If you're soaring ahead, great job! If you feel like you're falling behind, just remember this is a Marathon and we've still got a good ways to go. You could have zero days of writing and still make a daily writing pledge, so hang in there!

This is not a check-in post and participation is entirely voluntary. The official YEM check-in will happen on Discord at the end of the month, and while that is also entirely optional, we strongly recommend it as a way of supporting your writing habit.

Theme Prompt: #143 - nightmare (Amnesty 28)
Title: to finally find it (resurrections, track A)
Fandom: The Super Mario Bros. Movie (2023) - an AU in which Bowser is in the heroic role and the Mario Bros. are not, by way of a childhood swapping.
Rating/Warnings: PG-13 (because of Bowser's potty mouth) + hesitant warning for Mario Movie Spoilers I Guess
Word Count: 934 words
Author's Note: Sorry Bowser, for the nightmare traumas. It's not exactly a companion piece to reminders, not what I intended lol, but ... the new Mario Movie trailer reminded me "oh maybe I should actually practice writing this guy full of the insecurities my main Bowser ignored", lol.
(The Slay the Princess inspiration for this one + fun little note as to what Bowser actually tried to play later on in the drabble.)

Summary: Bowser Rigassi is used to nightmares, that comes with the territory of being a freak of nature without anything of a past but his first name. But the nightmare he has this time is unusually hard-hitting..

Theme Prompt: #014 - Time of Need (Amnesty 28)
Title: the princess and the dragon
Fandom: Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time (ft. Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story)
Rating/Warnings: PG-13 (mmmmmostly because of injuries and Bowser's potty mouth)
Word Count: 995 words
Author's Note: I wrote most of this while listening to House M.D. lmao, I continue to appreciate that they slipped in what're considered childish stuff like House reading comics or referencing Pokemon or playing on a PSP he receives as a gift in one episode. It's unusually endearing to me haha.
Anyways this is another continuation, this time to "a dance unfinished"

(sidenote for some reason the ending fought with me, sowwy if it feels off)
PATCH NOTES: Alas, once again I have fucked up and posted minus the title as well as screwing up something in the fandom bits. Again. Sorry!

Summary: Fawful wakes up in a corrected timeline of sorts - his adventure in the future caught the attention of Peach and Bowser, both of whom end up discovering him in Peach's Castle.
